THE AMERICAN EAGLE
The American Eagle is undoubtedly the most famous heroic legacy in the history of costumed adventurers. To date, seven different men have adopted the mantle of the American Eagle, and most of them have been at the forefront of the heroes of their time.
AMERICAN EAGLE I The first American Eagle operated from the early 1900s until 1918. A Delta-class hero, American Eagle I designed and built his own airplane, with which he shared his name, at the dawn of the aviation age. A skilled mechanic and aeronautical engineer, he was also a capable hand-to-hand combatant; most of all, he was widely regarded as perhaps the finest pilot of his time. He fought various criminals, and the occasional mastermind, most notably Robur the Conqueror, until World War I. At the beginning of the war, he joined the famed Lafayette Escadrille, and later flew with the U.S. Army Air Corps when his native country joined the war. He and Germany’s top ace, Der Reichsadler (“the Imperial Eagle”) killed each other in an aerial duel in the closing days of the war, in 1918.

AMERICAN EAGLE II The most famous and popular of the masked “mystery men” who operated in the 1920s and 30s, the second American Eagle, like his predecessor, was a Delta-class hero. Although not quite as capable a pilot as the first American Eagle, American Eagle II was an ace pilot, as well as being a crack shot with a variety of firearms, a highly skilled athlete and hand-to-hand combatant, and, although he was hardly a scientist or engineer, he was a gifted tinkerer and mechanic. Throughout the 1920s and 30s, American Eagle II fought gangsters, mad scientists, evil cultists, Imperial Japanese agents, and, in the 1930s, Nazis. He was finally killed in 1939 by the Nazi champion, Ubermensch.

AMERICAN EAGLE III The third American Eagle appeared virtually out of nowhere in 1940, taking on the mantle of the fallen American Eagle II, and taking the fight to the Nazis. Throughout World War II, he broke up Nazi and Japanese spy rings in America, and even more often, was at the forefront of American special operations in the European, and to a lesser extent, the Pacific, Theaters. He disappeared mysteriously in 1945 while on a covert mission behind enemy lines in Germany. He then even more mysteriously reappeared in 1982, reassuming the mantle of the American Eagle, and leading the Argonauts, before again mysteriously disappearing just before the Millennium Event in 2000. American Eagle III was nominally a Delta-class hero, as he apparently possessed no actual superhuman powers, but he was at the peak of human potential, and his combined athletic ability, fighting skills, speed, strength, physical senses, and tactical genius arguably pushed him into the Gamma, or even Beta, class.

AMERICAN EAGLE IV
Generally considered the least capable and heroic of the various men to assume the mantle, the fourth American Eagle was a government agent who was recruited to carry on the tradition after the disappearance and presumed death of American Eagle III. American Eagle IV fought mobsters and terrorists, but was mainly known as a spy-buster, who broke a number of Soviet spy rings in America in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He worked closely with Senator Joseph McCarthy, and following the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1953, he fell into disrepute as an over-zealous and paranoid Cold Warrior. When John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960, he finally officially retired. A Delta-class hero, American Eagle IV was a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and investigator, but is generally not considered to be as capable as his predecessors or successors.

AMERICAN EAGLE V
The first metahuman to adopt the mantle, the fifth American Eagle was a COUNTERForce agent who was recruited to replace the retired fourth American Eagle in 1960. He was a founding member of the Argonauts in 1963, and was one of his era’s most prominent heroes, although far from the most powerful. He was killed in the Fall. A Gamma-class hero, American Eagle V had wings enabling him to fly, superhumanly keen eyesight, and the ability to communicate with birds. He also wielded a variety of experimental COUNTERForce weapons, most notably a pair of arm-bands capable of projecting energy blasts and shields.

AMERICAN EAGLE VI
After the death of American Eagle V, an American Indian of the Navaho nation next took on the mantle of the American Eagle. Unlike the previous three American Eagles, who enjoyed close relationships with the U.S. government, the sixth American Eagle was antagonistic towards the government and most established authority. In addition to traditional super-villains, he also spent much of his time fighting corrupt industrialists and government officials, particularly those involved in polluting the environment. After the return of the third American Eagle, American Eagle VI apparently agreed to surrender the mantle to his predecessor, and assumed another costumed identity, Ironwolf, under which he still operates today, his powers apparently greatly slowing, or even stopping, the aging process. American Eagle VI possesses Beta-level impenetrable skin and physical senses, as well as mildly-enhanced strength and speed. He is also a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant and tracker.

AMERICAN EAGLE VII
After the second mysterious disappearance of the third American Eagle in 2000, a top U.S. government agent was asked to take on the mantle. The seventh American Eagle has operated since shortly after the Millennium Event, leading the official U.S. metahuman team, the Sentinels. American Eagle VII possesses Gamma-level natural combat abilities. He is also an Olympic-level athlete, and an highly skilled law enforcement and special operations professional.

AMOK, THE LIVING RAMPAGE
Very little is known about the man known as Amok, the Living Rampage. He first appeared during the mid-1970s, and has periodically surfaced ever since then, rampaging through the countryside or major cities on six continents, before disappearing again for months or even years at a time. Amok is apparently a nearly mindless brute, concerned with nothing more than inflicting as much damage as possible. He is known to have been manipulated or controlled numerous times by criminals and terrorists, either as a distraction, as a means of testing heroes, or simply as a living weapon of mass destruction. Amok is an Alpha-class individual, verging on Omega-class, who possesses Alpha-class strength, invulnerability, and regeneration, and apparently a boundless rage and talent for destruction.
