DOC STEELE
Dr. Ulysses Solomon Steele was one of the most famous and successful adventurers of the “Second Wave” of heroes in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. He had no known powers, but was a wealthy and successful businessman and industrialist, was a brilliant and innovative scientist and engineer, a highly respected historian, archaeologist and anthropologist, and a capable hand-to-hand combatant, pilot, and athlete. Perhaps his most important talent was as a leader. Although the “Second Wave” lacked the formal “super teams” of the Third and later waves, Doc Steele was instrumental in assembling a number of ad hoc groupings of costumed adventurers in order to meet challenges which were beyond their individual capabilities. He disappeared during World War II, but his legacy lives on in the Prometheus Foundation. Founded in 1933 by Doc Steele, it is today one of the world’s foremost philanthropic organizations, and supports scientific and medical research, education, exploration, and disaster relief around the world, as well as the Millennium team of metahumans.
