CLASS SKILLS
Each class has a list of “class skills”. Pick one skill from the class in which you take your first level. Your character is trained in that skill. When you determine the bonus for this skill, you use your associated ability
modifier or +3, whichever is higher.
LORE CHECKS
Skills may be used to make lore checks, to determine how much a character knows about a subject. When making a lore check, use the character’s Intelligence modifier as the associated ability modifier, rather than the usual ability. Some skills, such as History, are almost always used for lore checks, and other skills, such as Athletics, will rarely if ever be used for lore checks.
Make a lore check only for determining factual knowledge of a subject; use the normal associated ability to apply that knowledge. For example, use Nature Lore (and Intelligence) to determine what facts character knows about a particular plant, but use Nature (and Wisdom) to forage in the wild.
