CREATING A GALAXY HUNTER
Note: some of this material directly contradicts information I gave out in our proto-session. Where there is a contradiction, use the information posted here instead.
The Basics
Use Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition to create a Galaxy Hunter, except as outlined below.
Languages
A Galaxy Hunter knows Galactic Basic, spoken throughout the Core Worlds and most of the Fringe. A Galaxy Hunter can make a Smarts roll to understand a common language (one used by one of the standard races).
Races
The following races can be used to create a Galaxy Hunter.
'al'ishyae
'al'ishyae are aquatic humanoids. They are taller and slimmer than humans, with large, dark eyes, sleek bodies covered with gray micro-hairs, and webbed hands and feet. They are generally playful, and enjoy both physical humor and elaborate word-play (which tragically does not translate well into Galactic Basic).
Use the traits for the "Aquarian" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Aurax
As per the Science Fiction Companion.
Balakree
The balakree are winged humanoids from a low-gravity world. They have six limbs - two legs, two arms, and two wings. Balakree tend to be highly individualistic and value personal autonomy above all. However, they are capable of forming close bonds with members of a sept - a small group of companions.
Use the traits for the "Avion" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Elestrianian
Elestrianians are humanoids who evolved from mobile plant-like creatures. They appear eerily similar to humans, but with hairless, oddly colored and textured skin, and iridescent, multi-colored eyes. They tend to have gentle, easy-going personalities, and are willing to bend with the wind, wherever it blows.
Use the traits for the "Floran" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Fah
Fah are small, nimble creatures covered with fuzzy brown or black hair. Though they are frail compared to the other races of the galaxy, their cheerful optimism (or wily cunning) gives them a "never say die" attitude that makes them more than a match for creatures twice their size. Fah are also inveterate gamblers - with uncanny luck. Never bet against a fah.
Use the traits for "Half-Folk" in the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook.
Horvath
The horvath are short, stout, hardy humanoids who evolved as a semi-subterranean race. They have large eyes, oversized hands, and hairy bodies. They somewhat resemble the moles of Old Earth. Horvath tend to be gruff and reserved around strangers, but warm and physically affectionate with friends and family.
Use the traits for "Dwarves" in the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook.
Human
Exiles from Old Earth, humans are the dominant species in both the Federated Worlds and the Technocracy, and the most widely scattered throughout the Fringe.
Otherwise, as per the Science Fiction Companion.
Ilustriunian
The ilustriunians co-evolved with the elestrianians, but are much more mammalian. They share the iridescent, multi-colored eyes with the elestrianians, but are shorter and slimmer, with green skin and long, flowing hair. Their personalities also resemble those of the elestrianians, but they tend to be much more active - they want to stay ahead of the blowing wind. The ilustriunians' native technology was largely bio-technology, and they have a good deal of trouble dealing with inorganic machines.
Use the traits for "Elves" in the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook.
Kalian
As per the Science Fiction Companion
K!K!K!Tr!X Rogue
The K!K!K!Tr!X are a race of humanoid insects. They have a hive mentality, with no sense of individualism. However, for unknown reasons, occasionally a K!K!K!Tr!X will develop a sense of individual identity, and leave its hive to explore and try to make sense of its alien emotions.
Use the traits for the "Insectoid" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Mord
The mord were the first race enslaved by the Iridians, and had become fairly well integrated into the Iridium. They were used as warriors against the Iridium's enemies and taskmasters over their slaves. The mord largely sided with the rebels in the Iridian Wars, but other races still harbor a deep distrust of them. Physically, mord are humanoids who are somewhat larger and stronger than humans, with hairless gray skin laced by swirling black lines, and red eyes.
Use the traits for "Half-Orcs" in the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook.
Rakashan
The rakashans are a race of feline humanoids, and are the dominant species in the Hegemony. Rakashans lack a concept of "equality", and see all relationships in terms of dominance and submission. They honestly cannot quite comprehend other races' ideas about "mercy" and "compassion for the weak," but individual rakashans can temper their behavior to survive among groups that value such things - if they must.
Use the traits for the "Rakashans" in the Science Fiction Companion, except their Racial Enemy is the T'sarn.
Servo
"Servo" is the common nickname in the Fringe for robots, androids, bioroids, and similar constructs. Servos come in a bewildering variety throughout the galaxy, from service 'bots to war machines to pleasure models. Their status in the Fringe also varies wildly from world to world, from property to free citizens.
Use the traits for the "Construct" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Serran
As per the Science Fiction Companion.
T'sarn
The t'sarn evolved on the same homeworld as the rakashans, who nearly hunted them to extinction before the Iridium scattered them both across the galaxy. Many other races, especially humans, expect t'sarn to have cold-blooded personalities to match their physiology, but they actually tend to be warm, outgoing, and compassionate - except when it comes to the rakashans, who they will usually attack on sight.
Use the traits for the "Saurian" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Woros
Woros are large, hairy humanoids from a frigid world. They were in their stone age when they were conquered by the Iridium, and with the added complication of their awkward size and strength, they have a lot of trouble using advanced technology. The other races of the galaxy tend to view them as stupid brutes as a result, but humans often find them almost cuddly and endearing. As as a result, woros are well-disposed to humans, and fiercely loyal to anyone who treats them fairly.
Use the traits for the "Yeti" in the Science Fiction Companion.
Edges
The following Edges are not available to a Galaxy Hunter: Noble, Rich, Filthy Rich, Soul Drain, Champion, and Holy/Unholy Warrior.
The only Arcane Backgrounds that are available are Psionics, Super Powers, and Weird Science.
Change the Requirements of the Adept Edge to the following: Novice, Arcane Background (Psionics), Psionics d8+, Fighting d8+.
All other Edges in the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook and the Science Fiction Companion are available.
In addition, a Galaxy Hunter may take the following Edges:
Android
Requirements: Novice, Servo
Your Servo hero is designed to look and feel organic. Your Hero can only hold 4 points of Robot Modifications, but it requires a medical examination or sophisticated sensors to distinguish him from members of the race he is designed to resemble.
Star*Guard
Requirements: Novice, Spirit d8+
The Star*Guard are an ancient order of psionicists dedicated to "preserving the Light against the Darkness". Their origins are unknown, but seem to predate the rise of the Iridium. No one knows what "the Darkness" is, but most Star*Guards are convinced it is more than a metaphor. A Star*Guard gains the Arcane Background (Psionics) Edge, but one of their starting powers must be light (they cannot gain the obscure version), and all of their psionic powers have the light trapping. They also begin with a Star*Blade: Str+d8+2 damage, AP 6, minimum Strength d6. All Star*Guards have a Major Vow, "Preserve the Light against the Darkness", which does not count against the normal limit on Hindrances.
NOTE: The "Modded Out" Edge has been errata'ed out. When multiple players take an Edge, then tell me I shouldn't let them take it because it's so broken, I take heed.
Hindrances
A Galaxy Hunter may not take the Doubting Thomas Hindrance.
Gear
A Galaxy Hunter begins with $2500 worth of gear. You may also take the Geared Up Edge (and possibly the Modded Out Edge) for additional starting wealth.
A Galaxy Hunter may select a hand weapon from the Medieval and Modern Hand Weapons lists in the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook. The bow, crossbow, and longbow from the Medieval Range Weapons table are also available. Medieval and Modern Hand Weapons may take any of the Close Combat modifications from page 18 of the Science Fiction Companion, subject to common sense (you can't add the Chain/Vibro Blade Modification to a chainsaw). You can add the Molecular Blade Modification to the bow, and longbow, and the Energy Weapon, Molecular Blade, or Power Weapon to the crossbow. A medieval or modern weapon with a Close Combat Modification does not count as "high-tech" for purposes of the Low-Tech Hindrance, but it is a machine for purposes of the All-Thumbs Hindrance.
All other gear should be selected from the Science Fiction Companion. Items with the "Ultra-Tech" descriptor are not available - these can only be found as Iridian or Precursor Artifacts.
