Derek,
I'm not actually sure what you were asking me, so apologies if this doesn't answer what you were asking.
The most recent edition is in two core books (also requires the Savage Worlds: Deluxe Edition core rulebook):
Deadlands Reloaded: Player's Guide: Explorer's Edition
Deadlands Reloaded: Marshal's Guide: Explorer's Edition
There are also four big "Plot Point" campaign books, each with a free PDF Player's Guide that includes new options and updated rules, The Flood, The Last Sons, Stone and a Hard Place, and Good Intentions. The campaign books are supposed to be played in that order, and each advances the meta-plot of the setting. Each one has a free player's guide PDF that provides new and updated character options, which are supposed to be the result, in-world, of the advancing meta-plot. So, for example, the Good Intentions player's guide changes and updates rules for Blessed characters as a result of the advancing meta-plot in that book.
tl;dr: there are four free player's guide PDFs that have additional and updated/changed character options, which you can use as is, bring into play as the meta-plot advances, or just ignore.
The Smith & Robards 1880 Catalgo is fully compatible with the latest Deadlands Reloaded revisions, and includes a TON of steampunk gear, but is definitely not necessary. There are also a bunch of adventures, One-Sheets, and Trail Guides for Deadlands Reloaded.
If you were asking if I prefer the most current Savage Worlds version, then...kinda. Deadlands Classic is a really fun, quirky system, but Reloaded is a much cleaner system that's easier to learn for new players and easier for a GM to run.
