The purpose of this thread is to ask questions about the game, clarify any points, and so forth. Intended to be used by everyone (so, GM asking questions of players, player to player, player to GM, and just general game-related questions).
I have a question about Kuni Daizu. Dave - I seem to remember you had a master who accompanied you into the Shadowlands on the trip where your memories were lost and that said master's fate was unknown... I want to make sure that that's actually a thing that happened and not just something I'm pulling out of the aether... If there is a mysterious master out there somewhere, what (if anything) does Daizu remember about him/her?

Yes, that's right. I didn't really have many details in mind for him, other than that. He was Daizu's mentor, and trained him in the ways of the Kuni Purifiers. He would have been an older Purifier, who had seen a lot of Shadow - perhaps too much. He wasn't the highest ranking Purifier, but he was one of the most experienced.
He went on an unauthorized foray into the Shadowlands, and brought Daizu along with him, even though Daizu wasn't even a fully fledged samurai yet. Daizu didn't question him, he just went along with his master. He suspects his master was looking for something (and now suspects it was the geisha statuettes), but didn't know what or why.
They traveled through the Shadowlands for a couple of days, with only relatively minor encounters, nothing his master couldn't handle. His master seemed to know where he was going, and seemed to have some specific purpose in mind, but he didn't share it with Daizu. Then...something...happened. Daizu has a gap in his memories. He knows that his master died, but he doesn't remember how. Or where. Or when. He has very hazy memories of wandering through the Shadowlands, lost, alone, hunted, afraid. The next clear memory he has is waking up at a guard post at the Kaiu Wall, where he had turned up, disheveled and delirious, a week or so after he and his master set out.
He was questioned by the clan, of course, and other Purifiers. Apparently, no one else knew of their trip until they were seen by Kaiu Wall guards heading into the Shadowlands. Due to Daizu's famed honesty, and the fact that the Purifiers couldn't sense any Taint on Daizu, he was believed (at least as far as he knows...) that he didn't know why his master went into the Shadowlands, and didn't remember what happened.
After Daizu recovered from his ordeal, he spent some more time in training, and seemed healthy enough (although even weirder than when he left, and he was already considered a bit odd even for a Kuni Purifier). He was then sent to Tsuma for the Topaz Championship and his gempukko ceremony, where is where the campaign starts...
