Designer's Note: I'm still figuring out some of the specifics of Stress and Consequences. FATE usually uses two Stress Tracks, mental and physical, and some implementations add social or another track. There's a design problem with this in a genre where characters often focus on a specific "damage" type. If everyone in the group does physical Stress except the one psionicist who does mental damage, the psionicist isn't able to "stack" their damage with everyone else on tough foes. I'm probably going to go with a single Stress track, but still have different Stress types. The Stress types will interact with different powers and resistances, but not go to different Stress tracks.
In SuperFATE!, using the Attack Action can result in inflicting one of four different kinds of Stress on your target.
Trauma is physical Stress. Basically, anything that might inflict a discrete, localized injury is Trauma. It includes blunt force, blades, fire, explosions, and so forth. Unless you have a Power that specifically indicates otherwise, any Combat Attack Action will usually result in Trauma Stress.
Shock is a different kind of physical Stress. It involves system shocks rather than discrete force. It includes electricity, cold, heat, "energy", poisons, and diseases. If it would involve a Con save in F20 games, it probably counts as Shock Stress. Some specific Powers will involve inflicting and resisting Shock.
Ego is mental and emotional Stress. Anything which would cause your Hero conventional psychological stress is Ego Stress. It includes insults, intimidation, taunts, seduction, and so forth. Unless you have a Power that specifically indicates otherwise, any Social Attack Action will usually result in Ego Stress.
Spirit is a different kind of mental Stress. Rather than mere psychological Stress, Spirit involves Stress inflicted directly on your soul. It usually only results from specific magical or psionic attacks.
