STUNTS
This is all design notes, so I'm going to be a bit more informal than usual.
I really want Stunts to be a focal point for characters. The idea is for character growth, stat-wise, to come mainly from acquiring new Stunts, not from ramping up raw numbers. To me, this seems to match the source material much better.
However, I haven't really done a lot of design work on Stunts for this iteration, so it's far from clear to players how exactly to use them.
I'm using Fate Condensed as the basis, and their guidelines on how to create Stunts. But, SuperFATE! has enough twists that some of those guidelines don't really apply, particularly for Abilities and Talents.
The idea behind Abilities is that they are pretty much immutable. Your Hero's Combat rating is how capable they are at Combat, regardless of the "fluff". So, if you want a super-smart tactician who out-thinks their opponent, that's great, and that will impact narrative and maybe certain Stunts, but it has no direct game mechanic impact. You use Combat for Combat, period. There are no "this-for-that" substitution Stunts for Abilities.
Talents are a different story. My original design intention is that Talents should be more flexible in application than Abilities, or Fate Condensed Skills. Talents should be able to stretch more, and "this-for-that" substitution Stunts should likewise be easier.
So, all of that is set-up for the following:
I've thought more about Chrystal's proposed Stunt to let her Hero use the Technology Stunt in Combat, and I think I was too restrictive. I think the following Stunts should be fine.
Technical Weapons Expert
Your Hero can use their Technology Talent for Combat Attack rolls with their Weapons Power.
Technical Range Expert
Your Hero can use their Technology Talent for Combat Attack rolls with their Blast Power.
Tech-Shields
Your Hero can use their Technology Talent for Combat Defense rolls against physical Attacks. [This Stunt requires Weapons or a similar character trait to provide the narrative high-tech shields]
Thoughts?
