We decided the “Amulet of bludgeon your party mates” was too powerful and dangerous to be left sitting around in a dungeon with only a green light protecting it and kept it in a sack and then in the bag of holding. We can try to loose it or destroy it later. We then continued exploring. We found a few long halls and empty rooms. We then found a room full of 10 or so statues. The freaked the shit out of us and we continued on immediately with Shorty guarding our rear.
While exploring we open a door to a room full of Hobgoblins. They immediately attacked and we immediately retaliated. Karazhan was at the front, vowing to never to do such a thing again. A couple hobgoblins went through a nearby door that connected to the hall behind us. Shorty and Vellendar were conveniently surprised and with low initiative, so they were in position to intercept. What we were not expecting was that a tiefling rouge (we suspect the same one that ran away with his big ass tail between his legs earlier when he was lit on fire) would also be invisible in the hallway. The tiefling damaged Vellendar with ongoing poison damage that extended the encounter, long beyond what it took the rest of the group to drop the hobgoblins. The tiefling is still at large.
We entered a natural cavern section and discovered more statues, these in much worse condition pilled up in a cave. We suspected a basilisk or medusa was about. Fortunately nothing that bad was around as a large murder of goblins started down the hallway at us, some throwing javelins, others just trying to stick us. We prevailed. Come on it’s been like 2 chapters since these guys scared us. Some even surrendered. More surprising we talked to them and didn’t cut them down where they stood.
The two goblins left alive were scared, yet surprisingly helpful. They escorted us through the rest of the chambers, past a stair trap, showed us we were paranoid about the statues, and took us to the exit. The exit, of course, was the entrance that we were locked out of. Someone finally had the bright idea to play the harp to bring down the wall. This made perfect sense and worked after a failed attempt first. We then learned how to activate the rune set into the entrance that controlled the field. This may prove useful. We locked the door and went home.
First thing we did when we got back to town was to shop. Yes, the new found wealth went straight back into the economy of Sanction. We also attempted to track down Marishka and give her the bad news about her husband and son, that they probably were dead somewhere inside the tower and we could not find their bodies. We learned that none of these three people probably ever existed and that we were all played the fool, quite easily I might add. Whoever wanted to set us up also had no trouble finding us, or gaining our trust. Something we may have to think about in the future.

The city of Sanction is a little bit darker today. Kelvonis has fallen in battle. He was the cohesive center of our group. Rallying us and healing us in times of need. He gave his only healing potion to me in that very fight. Standing strong to the end. We now give a final good bye to Kelvonis.
This is how it happened.
After our adventures in the tower, our group took time to recollect on how things were progressing. Yes, we were making small strides in having an effect on events in Sanction, but were we having fun? How could we better use our skills to further our progress? Could we all be more forthcoming when something was bothering us. We came together as a group with Kelvonis ending our discussions claiming, “I’m sure as hell not going that tower again.” I claimed he was mistaken, but regretfully, his claim was true.
Knowing there was still a threat to us about, that being the woman claiming to be Marishka who sent us (far too easily) into the ambush at the tower. We decided that tracking her down would be a good course of action. Kelvonis must have sensed his fate, for he thought this was not a necessary course of action. Again, I scoffed. What would he have us do? Sit idle and wait for our enemies to attack us in our own homes? To ensure the “Moathouse” would not be compromised, Vellendar uncharacteristically stayed behind, as the rest of our group attempted to find “Marishka.”
Our investigation led us to a Halfling named Brinder, who lived down Holder’s Alley.
He ran. We caught him.
We talked to him about what he knew about a old hag named Marishka that may have set us up to be killed in the tower of Klothos. After a exchange of dialogue that challenged our skills, he told us about an old crone named Hargetey that lived down Carder’s Way deep in Hobb’s end. We set out to speak with her.
The trip into Hobb’s end was almost like traveling into the shadowfel itself. Kelvonis with his knowledge of the streets, and I with my knowledge of pitfalls into that realm, together we navigated our group safely to Hargety’s shop.
So we entered of our own will, hoping to have a spot of tea, when she attacked us through howling. This blew most of us back out through the door. We came at her again, but she had concealed herself in darkness. We redoubled our efforts and came through the door again, this time fanning out so as not to cluster. We discovered a necrotic aura surrounded her, making us weaker the longer we stayed near her. Into the darkness we fired wildly with breath lightning and scorching burst. The hag showed herself and Shorty pounced, and was Pwned. I took refuge behind a table while Kelvonis fought valiantly on top of one. Karazhan stayed at the door, firing at the hag when she had a clear shot, or even if she didn’t. Every moment the we stayed in the room we the hag we weakened. As the drain on me continued, Kelvonis fought his way over to me, giving me his final healing potion, and helping me surge on, while continuing the magics against her. Alistair continued toe to toe against the dark creature, dropping back, then charging forward. I dropped my flaming sphere near her, the pure heat of it eventually encouraging her to teleport out to the street. Shorty closed the door in relief. The rest of us continued the fight, Kelvonis opening the door to remain in her face. I Fey Stepped to the street, also in persuit. Once we had her in a little less confined area we could spread out from her howl, yet we continued to be hurt by her mere presence. Kelvonis stood strong while the rest of us fanned out down the street, and Shorty hid in the shop. Kelvonis dropped! The howl of the creature continued to push us back. Karazhan attempted to get a healing potion to him, but the howl shattered it on the street where it lay. Arrow, Magic Missle, Dagger, Charge! The waves of negative energy continued to wreck Kelvonis’ body. Just as things looked there bleakest, the foul creature was no more. We surrounded Kelvonis to revive him, but as I’ve already indicated, we were too late.
The victory is bittersweet. The hag that set us up has been destroyed, but one of our own has fallen. I can write no more on this…

8.26.08
I believe I have been in denial about Kelvonis. I stayed in my room working on new spells and rituals while the rest of the group delt properly with his body. I disassociated my self with the whole thing, perhaps to cope with the loss of someone who so quickly had become so important in my life. I finally came out of my room to join the group in the Bloated Goat. There was a new face making quite a lot of talk. He was a Cleric of Pelor and not shy to tell someone about it.
Before I really even had a chance to greet the stranger, a young human girl comes into the bar. Obvious to some is the fact she is hiding something or from someone. Again the bar doors burst open, this time with about 10 members of the Sect of the Yellow Sign. The head honcho of this group yells out that he wants the girl, and to stop hiding her, blah, blah, blah. My big mouth brother takes it upon himself to say she is under our protection and our new Cleric customer backs him up on it. We have no idea who this fucking girl is, but she’s pretty so let’s protect her, great. None the less, Honcho says we shall die, make threatening moves, and Shorty makes a strike that starts the whole bar fighting. (In a past life I would have LOVED this situation.) I followed up with a Scorching Burst right in the middle of 9 of them. They threatened us in our own home, come on. It is chaos. Alistare breathed on the gang, then got tripped and dazed by some halberd guys. Karazhan gets in a tight spot between some more halberders and resorts to…her fist. Vellendar plays smart and stays to the side using range to his advantage. Shorty tries to make the most of the crowd and gain his sneak attack. Some dude with a thunderbow rocked my world and made me see stars, but our new Cleric is a healing machine and quickly steps in where Kelvonis was missed. Things go our way and another slaughter at the “Bloated Goat” is complete.
The cleric says his name is Erais the Sunlord. The Sunlord. He means that shit, too. Can’t just talk. Always screaming what should be done or about Pelor. I know Vellendar’s got his thing for the Raven Queen, but at least he’s a little more subtle about it. This guys not subtle. He was good in the fight though, I’ll give him that.
The girl’s name is Yasmine. We get her talking about this Sect of the Yellow Sign, and how she is the “Mowgtie” and the sect wants to keep her trapped in the basement for the rest of her life talking the the god of the yellow sign. She, go figure, didn’t want to do this, so she ran away from home, stepped into this tavern and got 10 of her friends cut down in front of her. Welcome to jungle, baby. We tell her she can stay a few days until she decides where she wants to go next.
Oh, by the way, we’re all cursed now too. Yea, a mark is on us because we spilled the blood of the SotYS. Erius took it all in stride, but I believed it could be a serious threat and worth following up.
Velendar and I get to know Erius a little better as we go to the best library we can get into and do research on the SotYS. Shorty hit the streets to see what he could find out. Karazhan and Alistare stayed back to take care of the girl and loot the bodies. Everybody had success. We find out that the Sect of the Yellow Sign worship some powerful entity of some other dimension or plane. We find word of a Man in a Yellow Mask that speaks with or is an avatar of the entity. We find that others have herd of this curse before, and there is no known antidote or atonement. We hear about someone ripped to shreds on a street in broad daylight. Also, those of us who were members of the watch (Vellendar, Shorty and Myself) alerted Captain Vesper about the attack on us, the slaughter that ensued, oh and could someone come take the beginning to smell bodies. He also suggested that we follow up on the SotYS and save the city if need be.
We decided we should all rest up before our new mission in life. As we all tried sleep/trance but had the worst trancemares about yellow changing shapes that tried to hurt/kill us. We were awoken to many strange shapes that tried to hurt/kill us. We all awoke with hangovers but reacted quickly. Karazhan tried up her new bow and sent a thunderclap on four of them. I sent a force orb that missed by a mile. Shorty and Erius fought their ways into the hallway. Erius, being the only one not Dragonborn to normally wear heavy armor, had not attempted to sleep in his. The rest of the group had taken the curse seriously and slept in theirs. Erius called for us to rally in the hallway, again boosting our health while weakening our foes. I Fey Stepped out and ignited my fire shroud, managing to hit one unsuspecting one. I ran down the hallway with Karazhan and Shorty to make a defensive line. Alistare and Vellendar remained in the thick of the fight at the other end of the hall, forcing Erius to stay and back them up. Vellendar used his cold armor and I a Fire Sphere to damage multiple beasts. Alistare stood strong. Vellendar fell hard. Erius used his healing abilities to get him back in the fight. Shorty used his ability to position a foe to knock back the creatures, letting Karazhan and I to send ranged attacks down the hall. Suddenly, Erius was surrounded and dropped. He seamed to be alive, but in the cramped space, no one could get to him. With two of the creatures killed, one stayed on Alistare while the other 3 swarmed down the hall. Alistare charged out of his room. Shorty took advantage of the flanks. Karazhan continued firing arrows. Vellendar rushed over to Erius, but…it was too late. Erius was dead! Still the battle swung to our favor. We eliminated the creatures at our end while I trapped on on the other side of the doorway. The last creature tried to bull rush the sphere but was unable to move it. Karazhan made the final killing blow past the sphere.
So we checked on Yasmine, she was fine. Erius, dead. We finished resting then took Erius’ body back to the Temple of Pelor. Fortunately, we found out he was still under warranty, and was brought back from the dead free of charge. We were told that if we break him again we were going to have to pay for it. So, with new resolve, and a full fledged new party member, we prepare to investigate the Sect of the Yellow Sign.
