9.2.08
We finished our rest, bought a few healing potions and set off for the Sect. Vellendar thought we could find out more about the Sect and stayed back to do more research. We approached the location of the Sect of the Yellow Sign, noting the decorating choices that had been made to what was obviously a building that had seen many religions. Shorty, Erais and myself stepped inside to try to explain what had happened and how we didn’t need to be enemies (unless they were trying to take over the city or something, then we would), and could they remove these yellow marks please. We got as far as “Excuse me, but…” They were in a middle of a service, that they decided to stop right then and there to “stop the interlopers” and that we wear the mark, etc. Shorty attempted to strike first as usual, but one of the guards stuck first. Then when he tried to get the guy in charge, he was knocked back with a thought. That thought also killed some of their own congregation. We called for Karazhan and Alistare who rushed in without hesitation. Karazhan instructed to focus fire on the targets on Alistare, which she promptly didn’t do. We focused on the guards since we learned that the head honcho had another aura that caused us pain to be near it. We backed away and shorty moved him closer again. Alistare learned a new stance that caused enemies to be hit by him everytime they started near him. I learned a new spell that stunk up the joint like nobody’s business. I was able to even increase the size, thanks to the magic staff I had purchased at Alistare’s urging. I had said, “Sure, it’s nice but I can’t afford that,” but he insisted saying that we’re all in this together, and if we couldn’t find magic items suitable for me, we’d buy them, and even gave gold of his own to help with the cost. That was great. But I digress. The cloud forced the remaining members of SotYS to engage us in closer quarters. Things looked bad for me when I took a hit that knocked me out. Erais was able to raise me quick enough I could maintain hold of the cloud I had created. We managed to actually concentrate our attacks and successfully slaugter another room full of beings. I swear, we really would have been happy to talk this thing out.
Yasmine explained that we had to go on past a guard or god or something. I write this after many other events including Tropical Storm Syrinna, a company of Halflings staying the Night, and the start of Sanction’s Gridiron Season, so some facts may be vague. After my eperience with unconsciousness, I decided to hang back a little while the others listened at the doors. The doors, unexpectedly, opened to about 10 guards behind door number 1 or a big ugly murky, bubbly, gross, monster thing. This thing, let’s call it eyeball thing, caused most of out group to be dazed (I was saved by the staff) and also grow another mouth on their body that then tried to start eating them. It was really freaky. Karazhan started with attacks against the guard leader, which when he hit him, cursed him back with worse aim. Shorty followed up, and I manged to hit with a Orb of Force that dropped him and 4 of the next 5 guys. Alistare came up and breathed lightning on the group. Erais became caught in gross difficult terrain that eyeball thing created, but continued healing us. As the guards attacked into our group, I was able to use a fire shroud that hit 7 of 8 guards. This fight was turning into one of my finer moments. Not to be outdone, however, Karazhan used her new ability to splinter a shot into eyball thing… and missed wildly… no! It was a trick shot that was what could only be described as an Elvenly Acurate shot that inflicted Critical Damage with a magic weapon against the Quarry of a Hunter. It was that good. This made it mad. Luckily, it did not stay mad long, since Karazhan had a few more great shots and it died. The guards faired no better, as Erais held his ground and I dropped back, we were able to clear our path. Yasmine thought we were perhaps a bit extreme, but the worlds a tough place.
As I catch my breath here for 5 minutes or so, I wonder if my brother will have completed his research and attempt to catch up with us. I think we should send Shorty up the surface to check. I really need to look into that “sending” ritual I’ve heard about…
