Alot has changed in the Forgotten Realms since 3E; especially the geography. With the Spellplague and the untimely fusing of parts of Toril and Abeir, the physical surface of the Realms has altered greatly and so has the status and even location of some of its most renown kingdoms, cities and places of power. It is safe to assume that what you knew of FR could use a bit of an update. I strongly suggest glancing through the FR PHB on locations we will be encountering in the campaign that begins on Wednesday. One of the great things about playing in a premade world like this is the fact that alot of the details have already been presented. The stage is set all we have to do is have fun on it!
The Campaign will be starting in the small riverside settlement of Loudwater, nestled in an area known as the Gray Vale. Page 100 in the FR PHB gives a bit of information on the area and the surronding areas of importance. The season in which the campaign will be starting in is winter so the settlement will be full of furclad residents, snow white landscapes and overall cold conditions. I'd like for all PCs to have a real reason to be in Loudwater. You could be passing through on a quest, using the settlement as a warm rest between travels or even a citizen of the town! The Gray Vale is full of ancient and abandoned kingdoms, monsters and raiding bandits so it is a great place for adventurers to call home. Whatever you decide, please make it clear in your Character outline.
Character outline? You mean that kooky RPing aspect of my PC? Yup, I'd like for each Player to write up atleast 3 things they'd like to experience in the game, 3 things of interest about their characters background and 3 things that motivates their PC to adventure. This can be as long or as brief as you desire, but keep in mind that the more you give me the more I'll have to work with when intigrating it into the story. The last thing your character needs is its place of origin. FR has a ton of great locations and the cool thing is that your place of origin gives you character unique powers and skills for free! These "regional benefits" and places of origin begin on page 75 of the FR PHB so check them out.
And that's about all! Come Wednesday ready to role play, smite baddies and gain cool treasure! We may have some new folk since this is also sort of a gaming outreach program for Fanboys so I expect you vets to be helpful for those who haven't played. (They will be in awe of Jeremys uberness I'm sure) ;D We will be rolling characters together so have an idea of what you want to play when we meet at 6:30.
