"I knew Iraq was a real insurgency when I saw guys welding hillbilly armor and weapon mounts on their vehicles. I don't care what any bean counters at the Pentagon say about cost-benefit analysis, or mobile air-land warfare and superior C4I rendering armor obsolete. When the rounds start flying, GIs will strap armor and weapons onto anything with an engine. So what does it say that now we're upgunning people?"
-U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (Ret.) Deke Watkins
Synopsis: Sometime in the near future, Earth is invaded by aliens that are attempting to xenoform the planet. The aliens have a mastery of bioengineering far beyond human science, and make use of living weapons, including giant radioactive monsters which spread massive death and destruction. Earth's conventional military forces are quickly being overwhelmed. The SuperGun Program may hold the key to humanity's survival - at the cost of the humanity of those who agree to become SuperGuns.
The SuperGun Program uses a mixture of bleeding edge nanotechnology and captured xenobiotechnology to enable ordinary humans to transform into armored weapons systems - the SuperGuns. Packing the power of an entire armored division into a humanoid frame, the SuperGuns are able to go toe-to-toe with the aliens' most fearsome bioweapons. But how often can you transform into a living weapon of immense destructive power before you lose touch with your humanity?
Despite the assurances of the scientists, the SuperGun technology is still only partially understood. In particular, the transformation process is often fatal. While they don't fully understand why, the project scientists have discovered a genetic marker, carried by less than 0.1% of the population, which seems to enable a much greater chance of acceptance of the SuperGun technology. Hard pressed by the alien menace, the United Earth Defense Forces attempts to recruit anyone with the rare genetic marker, regardless of circumstance or background.
Together, the misfits who have been recruited and survived the UpGunning process are humanity's last, best line of defense. SuperGun Team Sentai Go!
Tone: High action/adventure and humor mixed with gritty war stories, weird science, and elements of psychological horror.
System: BigEyes, Small Mouth RPG. The characters will receive a small allotment of points to spend to create their characters, pre-UpGunning, then a standard SuperGun package (Armor, Blast, Flight, Super-Strength, etc.), then some additional points to customize their SuperGun form.
Inspiration: Black Summer (comic book), Strike Force Morituri (comic book), pretty much any anime featuring giant monsters and/or guys in power armor, especially the Bubble Gum Crisis, Gundam, Guyver, Macross/Robotech, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Power Rangers and Voltron franchises.
