…think I may have figured out something here.
Hello. This is Vaan Qel-Droma. I am a Jedi. This holocrom has come into my possession through unfortunate means. If you are seeing or hearing me, you have made more progress with it than I have, but I believe I can at least add my experiences to it’s memory.
I don’t have much time right now to reflect on what fate the Force has brought me, but I will start with the most recent events. The final step of my journey into Outer Rim was before me. Only one Imperial blockade kept me from escaping the Core regions. If I only had a ship of my own, I felt confident I would be able to avoid the blockade. The best I could manage was to try to find passage on a ship already heading that way.
The docking bay held a few prospects. A Vong ship, that was an easy pass. I don’t trust anything that I can’t sense with the Force. There was a nice looking ship with some nasty looking guards. Too expensive. Found a captain, turns out he’s a ship designer as well, named Rikus that was willing to take me on as crew for passage. He had a few hired hands already, and booked a few more fares, and we were ready to take off.
Not quite. Lock down. Stormtroopers bullying a few Mon Cals, looking for a fugitive. Before anyone could really figure out what was going on, the Mon Cals were dead, more retribution from Darth Krayt I expect. It was difficult to watch, but diving into a fight half cocked was only going to get me killed before I could do any real good. A few passengers from our own ship climbed out to investigate. I followed just in time to watch a old fellow named Slade conjure a blaster into his hand and blow the head clean off a stormtrooper. A chiss woman I would learn was named Ardra, ran quickly to the control panel to release the lockdown. I acted out of instinct, stepping next to her, slashing at a trooper and telling her to keep working on the computer. “Ignore the troopers, keep working on the computer!” A small troop transport told us not to move. We did and got blaster fire for an answer. But Ardra was able to tell the computer to release our ship. Rikus dropped the ramp and we boarded, covering fire coming from inside. Rikus quickly blasted us out from the dock.
As I made my way to the cockpit to see if I could be of service, Rikus passed me on his way to the engine room. He told me to fly as he tried to coax every Tachyon of speed out of the engines. I did what I could from the cockpit, let the Force be my guide, and shot out of the atmosphere. The hired hand named Rak, was in the port gunwell and one shoted an approaching TIE. This helped give us the space we needed as we made the jump to light speed.
In the relative safety of hyperspace, those of us that made it on board quickly discussed the events on the platform. The last occupant of the ship was an ordinary sort named Jason Archer, don't know much about him. Everyone quickly assumed I was the fugitive the squad was looking for, being a member of the Jedi order. I don’t know if I was the target or not, but my instinct is that it was another. I don’t imagine the Sith out looking for me, but perhaps I underestimate their power…or mine. I took my leave and entered a trance to reflect on events.
It was not long enough, when the ship dropped out of light speed. Interdictor Cruiser. We had reached the blockade. I prepared for the ensuing fight or deception that the captain surely had planned, but was surprised when he piloted the ship into the hanger. Was he giving us up? I sensed no love for the Empire from him, nor deception toward us. We all debarked the shuttle, meeting an officer with a few troopers and a couple droids as well. They started to search us, and the ship. Again, before anyone could stop it, Slade was blasting again. At this point fighting was our only choice. I focused on the officer to keep the Imps confused. The fight in the hanger went our way, but still I knew of no options of how to get past the gravity well projectors on the ship, not to mention the turbolasers. Rikus seemed to have an epiphany. He ordered everyone on his ship. This sudden change of attitude concerned me, but a searched my feelings and felt destined to follow him. We flew out of the hanger, past TIE’s and turbolasers and again into hyperspace. I had never suspected for a second that his ship had a cloaking device. Incredible!
As we continue on to Kessel, I rest, wondering what challenges await me.
