Gotham Knights will be different from many Super Hero games we have played in the past because all of the characters will be, for the most part, "normal people." There will be no alien heat vision, rings of power or magic lassos at this point in the game- no, the heroes who defend the streets of Gotham will be similar in design to The Batman and his circle of allies. While such characters will possess no REAL super powers they will have access to specialized skills, resources and training that give them an edge when it comes to combating the criminal element they encounter.
Although this power level may seem weak in comparison to what we have played in the past and limited when it comes to unique concepts- I challenge you to step out of the box and push your creativity to its limits in really making a character who is both diverse and relevant. After all, The Batman is one of the most amazing characters in comics today and he fits the bill of this style character.
Below is a list of some concept ideas and a few existing characters that would fit well in Gotham Knights. Feel free to base your character off some of the ideas below and add your own personal flair. Remember your characters will be developed around the "Heroic" Scale (According to the HA! system) so flesh your character out but don't aim to beef him up for the sake of raw power alone.
I will be adding the mechanical rules on how to build your character after I spend a few days with the source material to better understand how the system works. In the meantime, start getting some ideas!
Character Concepts:
Fortunate Hero (Example: Black Cat)
-Blind Luck seems to aid you when you need it most.
Mystic Hero (Example: Azrael)
-You possess some minor magical weapon or item that you have trained hard to master.
Super Soldier (Example: Captain America)
- You are the height of human capability in one or more areas.
Wealthy Thrillseeker (Example: Green Arrow?)
- You use your vast resources to equip the best technology money can buy.
Agent (Example: Nick Fury)
- You work for some organization that has given you the training and resources to put you above the common man.
Archer (Example: Hawkeye)
- You use your amazing precision in archery and an arsenal of unique ammunition to defend your cause.
Dark Avenger (Example: Batman)
-You use a fearsome reputation and psychological ploys mingled with combat tactics to constantly catch your foes off guard.
Living Weapon (Example: Wolverine's Claws)
- Through surgery, mutation or genetics you have been equipped and designed to be a superior threat with nothing but your new found body.
Cyborg (Example:...Cyborg..)
-Technology has granted you capabilities beyond the norm.
Martial Artist (Example: Elektra)
- Intense training has turned your body into an instrument of control and power.
Just a few examples. The list goes on and on. Have fun!
