[glow=red,2,300]Blackguard[/glow]
The universe has always had its guardians.
It is rumored that since the beginning of time The Star Guardians* have policed the known sectors of space- keeping the galaxy safe from threats both grand and small. Wielding special gauntlets that can tap into the limitless power of the universe, The Star Guardians* have stood as a symbol of justice against anything that would do creation harm.
Robert Kane was selected at the age of 21 to be Earth's Star Guardian and for over 10 years he joined with other forces of good to protect the planet from the worst threats she had ever encountered. He also aided his fellow Star Guardians* when they had need of him- fighting by their side light years from earth. It was a golden age for the man known as Starguard and Robert was a publically renown hero.
Then came the Great Sundering.
The details of the Sundering have been lost as fragments drifting in space but what is known is that the Star Guardians* were betrayed by one of their own. A battle erupted of cataclysmic proportions with an army of unknown origin. Their power was overwhelming, their knowledge of the Star Guardians* was precise and their purpose was singular- the utter annihilation of the Guardians and the source of their power. Hundreds of Guardians lost their lives and the Great Star, Solaros, was destroyed.
Kane fought alongside his fellow Guardians in the Battle for Solaros and only managed to escape with his life when his gauntlet transported him back to earth once it's charge was all but spent. He could not see Solaros in her final moments, as she exploded with white hot vindication in her final death throes,
but the way the gauntlet on his forearm lost it's energy and light was all he needed to see to know it was over. The Star Guardians were no more.
In the years that followed Kane took to the streets- not allowing his lack of a super power to keep him from fighting crime. He pushed his body to new physical limits and trained and studied hard to counteract the villains in his own city. His once bright costume of shimmering gold was replaced with black and the simple domino mask that served as a means to hide his identity replaced with a full mask and cowl. Black armored boots, legs, chest, a belt full of helpful supplies and a cloak to help keep him hidden in the
shadows...
To remember where he had come from Kane took to wearing his gauntlet, now dark and quiet without the energy of Solaros, and the man known as Starguard became Blackguard.
However, little did Kane know, his gauntlet was far more advanced than first believed. A contingency "program" in the gauntlet, triggered by the death of Solaros, was activated and was ordered to find an alternative source of energy to power it. Years after the Great Sundering the gauntlet finally found what it was looking for and in the middle of a battle with some drug dealers- Kane's gauntlet awoke! Giving off a midnight blue aura the gauntlet made short work of the petty criminals and for months Kane brought swift justice to his city, nearly halving the crime rate, and struck fear into the hearts of those who meant to do evil...
But the gauntlet was not all it seemed. Kane's mood began to alter slowly. He became more paranoid. More violent. More reclusive. It seemed that the more Kane tapped into the unknown power fueling his gauntlet the harder it was for him to control himself in battle. When he broke the back of a pimp one night for talking back- Kane decided it best to only use the gauntlet in times of need.
And so Blackguard struggles with the unknown power that courses through his gauntlet. He wonders where it comes from and what its purpose is. He struggles with his desires to discover what destroyed Solaros and his fellow Guardians- but fears what might happen to him if he truly accessed the gauntlet and entered space to find evidence. He wonders if such fear is rational or just the paranoia brought on by the gauntlet in the first place...

Essentially Blackguard is a Green lantern/Batman hybrid with a twist. His origins have him starting out as a very Golden Age character- in the spotlight and fighting evil in the bright, vibrant colors of the time. After the fall of the Star Guardians* he has left that concept behind (though he may very well still miss those days) and is more akin to the Dark Knight in his methods, tactics and persona. He wants to find out what is powering his gauntlet and ultimately avenge or rebuild the Star Guardians in some form or fashion. He is a good guy, does not kill, but there will be some fun RPing opportunities as he struggles with the lure of his gauntlet.
