Been looking through the new Hero's handbook and although it is very similar to the current system there are a few changes-
-Attributes (now called Abilities) no longer use the standard D20 rating. They range from -5 to 20 where 0 is an average human and 20 is a cosmic God. (7 is the peak of human conditioning) Also, the attributes themselves have changed from the standard list to Str, Stam, Agi, Dex, Fighting, Int, Awareness and Presence. There are no more Attribute modifiers anymore- you simply add the actual rank.
-There are MANY new status effects and conditions
-Crits on skill checks add 1 degree of success
-Detailed rules on how to spend Hero points and how to mechanically gain them (outside of clever or creative RPing)
-New PP cost for certain skills, abilities and powers
-Flaws (now called complications) are mandatory and are essential for gaining Hero Points
-Suggested Power Levels for Street Level, Super Heroes, Big Names and World Protectors
- New mechanics for balancing Attack and Effect, Dodge/Parry and Toughness, and Fort and Will.
-Mechanics for Origins and how they might affect powers
-New Skills (some of which are essential to combat) and new ways to use the old ones
-New power options and clearer rules on existing powers
-New costs for equipment and gear
-New Skill Challenges (IE 4E)
-Critical Hits in Combat now allow you to do things other than stack damage (such as increase a power rank or add an effect)
-Clearer rules on cover and concealment
-New ways to attack (such as with teammates or using an attack in a new way)
- Huge Section on the current DC world including places, characters, events and lore. Full created characters for heroes and villains (Batman is PL 12. Nightwing is 10. Robin is 8..)
-Lots of DC artwork!
The book explains that the DC Hero's Handbook is 3E Mutants and Masterminds and will be completely compatible with all other DCU sourcebooks as well as M&M 3E when they release the new edition.
