Dick Grayson from another time and another Earth, The Crimson Shadow, cuts through the rain-slick streets of Gotham on his motorcycle. Tim Drake, Robin, struggling to not fall in a coma- the reason for his urgency. Little does he know he is being followed...
In the distance the ruin of Wayne Manor still sends up persistent furls of smoke like wispy white flags of surrender. Grayson hopes that the extensive network of caves below, however, are not as hopeless. The Batcave is in full lockdown mode- weapon systems are active, defense gates are online and cloaking tech borrowed from Gorilla City keeps all entrances completely hidden. Grayson knows the way in.
Alfred greets the heroes with a brisk warning and a shotgun but when he realizes the urgency of the situation he quickly begins prepping the surgery room for Tim. In the meantime, the Batcave is assaulted by Ophanim who isn't quite sure what he has actually stumbled across. The Crimson Shadow calms his trigger finger and begins to explain everything. His black future, his attempted jump into the past, the malfunctioning boom tube that actually sent him to another location in the multiverse all together. Blackbird, a new hero in Gotham who has encountered The Batman before as a thief in her past, also managed to follow Grayson into the cave in his mad rush to rescue Robin. Grayson, the need for secrecy no longer a priority in his dark future, disregards the need for codenames and even allows the new costumed individuals who has just met access to the Batcave's computer and files.
Alfred returns covered in bloody scrubs to announce that Tim is stabilized and should have a speedy recovery. The loyal butler goes on to share what has happened in the last half year or so by describing the attack on Wayne Manor by The Batman's entire Rogue Gallery. When Grayson panics realizing that his future began to unravel with the death of The Batman on his Earth Alfred takes them to a hidden room in the caves...
Bruce Wayne is suspended in one of Mr. Freeze' cryo tanks. He survived the attack on the Manor but he is in some sort of mysterious "coma." The Dick Grayson of this Earth and timeline has traveled to the East in hopes of finding a cure to bring Batman back from his sinister stasis.
The heroes take this all in. As they each sort through their individual thoughts the Batcomputer announced a distress signal in Gotham. A police evidence warehouse has been broken into and a firefight is taking place in the steets! The Gotham Knights load up into Ophanim's APC and take off to the scene of the chaos. They find a masked man in combat gear doing his best to hold off a whole gang of hired muscle and two villains- Manticore the Archer and Lady Swift- a metahuman gunslinger with enhanced reflexes and accuracy. A fierce battle takes place but the heroes win the day! They make sure all civilians are safe and drop the villains off with the GCPD. The geared soldier calls himself AWOL and leaves mysteriously in an old pickup truck after the battle...
When the heroes return to the cave Tim Drake lays into The Crimson Shadow, chastising him for giving away hard earned secret identities and giving random strangers access to the Batcave's extensive files and network. He leaves angrily and does not return. The Gotham Knights also meet Damian Wayne (who very nearly breaks Ophanim's finger when he points it at the boy) a spoiled 11 year old who claims to be the heir to the Wayne Empire and also just so happens to be Ras Al Ghouls Grandson. The hot tempered, spoiled youth begins bossing the Gotham Knights around and trying to exert his authority over the Batcave when a News Report appears on screen.
It is Bruce Wayne. He is giving away Billions of dollars to local charities and rebuilding funds in an effort to breath "new life" into Gotham. The real Bruce Wayne is in a Cryo tank in a nearby room. Who IS this imposter and what are his agendas? The Heroes decide to go to a benefit party that very evening where Mr "Bruce Wayne" plans to make an apperance and find out.
The party is taking place at the top of one of Gotham's most prestigious buildings and personal transports and helicopters can be seen dropping off celebrities and some of the richest people in the world. The return of Bruce Wayne from his "extended vacation" is all the buzz and his staggering donations are cause for commotion. The Heroes arrive out of costume, acting as friends, body guards and security for Dick Grayson (who has applied some of Clayface's cream to make him appear more like the Grayson of this world.) They try and get close to "Bruce" but he is all smoke and mirrors for the reporters and politicians and doesn't reveal much of who he might really be.
Damian (thanks to a little pep talk from AWOL) decides this fake Bruce must be a Lex-bot (as Lex Luthor is also moving about the party himself) so he splashes "Bruce" full on in the face with a glass of punch screaming "Die, Lexbox, Die!" Bruce chuckles, attempts to play off the little scene with his "mischivious son" and goes to clean himself off in the bathroom. The heroes completely lose sight of him.
As they attempt to follow "Bruce" the skies suddenly erupt in lightning and booms of thunder. Black Adam descends from the darkness above, his arms crossed his powerful chest, his eyes burning with power. "Where is Bruce Wayne?!" He roars! The guests scream and begin to panic. In the chaos Lex Luthor walks out to the balcony to confront Adam. "Now you listen to me Black Adam! You have no place or purpose at this-"
Lex's words are cut short as Adam roars out the magical word "SHAZAM!!" A bolt of lightning splits the skies and comes crashing down on the balcony Lex is standing on. The building groans under the force as massive slams of masonry and brick fall to the streets below. People panic and being rushing towards the stairs. The power goes out.
Chaos over Gotham.
