Rogue Trader is unique in that the classes are also your roles on board the ship. Without his inner circle of officers (or his entire crew for that matter) a Rogue Trader is nothing more than a landlocked rogue with a fancy piece of paper.
While the Rogue Trader takes on the role of Captain and Commander of his vessel- a smart Trader knows to rely on his officers in their skills of expertise. While even a small Rogue Trader vessel requires thousands of crewmen, servitors and techpriests to keep her flying- the Rogue Trader classes act as officers in their field. They hold high ranking positions, second only to the Captain himself, and the men and women of the ship look upon them with awe and respect.
Our Captain and Crew
Rogue Trader- Jeremy
Arch-Militant- Allen
Seneschal- Mike
Navigator- Suit Chris
The Rogue Trader- Captain of the vessel and keeper of the precious Warrant of Trade. Without him there would be no authority and the ship would be nothing more than a vessel of common pirates- an easy target for the Imperial Navy. Rogue Traders must be charismatic, skillful, witty and ambitious to survive long in the galaxy- but they need not be masters of all things. It is the expertise of his officers that helps make him a legend among the stars. But the final call is his to make and his ambitious and best laid plans will fuel the journey.
Arch-Militant- If the Rogue Trader is the Captain then the Arch-Militant can be viewed as his most capable warrior. The Arch-Militant is an expert in all forms of combat. There is no weapon he cannot kill with. Many are ex Imperial Guard veterans, Arbiter Judges or Bounty Hunters of renown- but despite where they came from- it is plain why a Rogue Trader would keep a heavily armed Arch-Militant always at his side.
Astropath Transcendent- The psyker- pariahs of humanity- Astropaths are none the less crucial to a Rogue Trader crew. Without the far reaching psychic powers the Astropath summons communication would be impossible and the ship would have no way of sending messages across the galaxy. Blinded by their ritual of sanctioning- Psykers constantly speak into the Warp to one another so that their Captain and his ship remains connected to the universe at all times. They also bring about a deep knowledge of the Warp and a truly frightening arsenal of psychic abilities to aid their master.
Explorator- A member of the Adeptus Mechanicus- the Explorator is part of the crew but does not view the Rogue Trader as his master. He answers to his own keepers. However, Explorators are valuable assets to a Trader's crew as they bring with them a vast amount of esoteric knowledge as well as technical expertise. Not to mention a healthy amount of fire power. In return, they are allowed to send back information and samples of technology to their leaders back on Mars. It is an ancient pact between Rogue Traders and the Mechanicus and it is generally viewed as being mutually beneficial.
Missionary- Similar to the Explorator- The Missionary is a part of the crew but he doesn't view the Rogue Trader as his master. The Missionary generally travels on a Trader's ship to honor a debt between the Dynasty House and the Ecclesiarchy (40k Church) and his purpose may be to convert the people encountered on distant worlds, to purge the creatures that lurk in the warp or to act as spiritual figureheads on board. Some act as confessors to the Rogue Traders they attend and become their most trusted counselors.
Navigator- Without the Navigator and his genetic abilities there would simply be no Imperium of Man. At best, humanities control of the stars would be limited to a few scattered planets- not the millions they control now. Navigators are the oddest of a Rogue Trader's crew. They carry in them a rare gene, rumored to have been created by the Emperor himself, that allows them to see into the Warp and not go insane like all others who try. They see the ebbs and flow of the Immaterium and can chart a course through its deadly paths like a sea captain reads his charts and the stars above. Belonging to ancient Guild Houses, Navigators generally view themselves as prestigious and noble (which may be warranted considering how important they are) despite the fact that their genes begin to physically mutate them the more they come into contact with the warp. Many become abominations in their later years- their bodies wracked and twisted as they change. However, they are absolutely essential- for should a Rogue Trader lose his Navigator beyond the fringes- his vessel and all who serve upon her- is truly lost.
Seneschal- Master of ceremonies, master of coin and commerce, master of logistics, master of emissaries, master of whispers and spies- the Seneschal is the quietly spoken individual in every Trader House who is looked upon with trepidation by those who fear they have earned his suspicion. The mechanism of trade and House affairs do not run themselves and it is the Seneschal who has his hands upon the gears-ever adjusting, ever careful and ever vigilant. Sage counsellor, profit-monger, and spy- he is all these things and more.
Void Master- He is the master of running a Rogue Trader's ship. In character and attitude, they are as varied as the ships on which they have served in the past- products of the finest naval bloodlines all the way down to smugglers and pirates. A Void Master knows every inch of his vessel, up and down, and is an expert in one or more of Her capacities. He might be the helmsman, master gunner, or the warden of the ship's sensors- whatever position he holds- he controls these systems as though they were an extension of his body.
